The front door was open. Ah snap. This wasn't good.

Not that I ever had loving parents before.

But Dennis was expecting me.

No really, he was expecting me or else.

Yikes.

I pushed the door open slowly, peeking inside. I didn't even need to see Dennis's face to feel his upset fatherly energy oozing all around me.

Well, at least this wouldn't be as bad as facing an angry Richard so... yeah.

I slipped inside slowly, a cheesy smile on my face. "Hi, Dennis."

When I had arrived at the front entrance for the building, the cops had looked at me with bulged eyes and raised eyebrows. Heh, I knew, I had pulled over on 'em. What they hadn't known or probably wouldn't have believed was that I used magic to do it.

"Anya-Marie, lock the door and sit down, young lady."

*Someone's in trouble...*

'Hey, shut it, Ten-ten.'

I sighed, locked the door and dragged my feet to the couch. Dennis stared me down like a darn moving target. Like dang.

"Yeah?"

"You were grounded."

"Yeah?"

"Pray tell, where were you today?" Dennis asked, his legs crossed and half his face hiding behind a steamy coffee mug. Yuck, adults really do love that nasty dark stuff. But the smell was more herbal with a hint of citrus, so maybe that British Earl Gray stuff.

"Umm, I just took a walk around the city. You can't lock me up in this place and expect me to stay! I'm young. I get bored!"

Dennis stared from underneath his furrowed dark thick eyebrows. Holy crap, I was being interrogated!

"Uh huh. You do know I have GPS on you, right?"

"Wait, what?"

Dennis placed his coffee mug full of nasty bitter-smelling tea down on the table next to him. "You were at Penny's place."

Jeez, my poker face slid right off. No hiding it now.

Dennis bent over and picked something up off the ground. I couldn't see it since the wooden coffee table was in the way. But boy, oh boy, when he dropped my blood stained dress down on the table I knew I was in deep crap.

"Dennis..."

This time he shifted his position, placing his elbows on his knees and lacing his fingers together so he could support his chin.

"You're a good kid, Anya-Marie. I don't think you're a killer, but this doesn't look good. So, you need to start talking. Now."

Good God, his daddy energy is so strong that he doesn't even need to yell.

RMMMMMBLL

That thunderstorm didn't sound normal...

*Child...*

'I know.'

I lowered my shoulders. "Dennis, this is not going to be easy to explain. But the thing responsible for your family's and my sister's death isn't just some bacteria or infection. It's a force of some sort of evil and... I want to tell you more. But I fear it'll be too much and too weird."

Dennis gave me a 'WTF' face. But it wasn't an 'I don't believe you, try again,' face.

"Anya-Marie, you're telling me some sort of high tech--"

"Evado!" I called out.

I disappeared before Dennis's eyes. He jumped out of his seat as if someone had placed hot coals below him. "Woah! Anya?! ANYA!?"

He walked around the coffee table and whisked his hand around.
